Expanding your Playground Funding

How well do your playgrounds cater to all the kids in your community? Colorado Parent recently issued an article highlighting how "Specialized play spaces give families living with Sensory Processing Disorder a place of growth and connection." Many grants are available to help communities meet the needs of inclusive play to go beyond ADA access and provide play spaces for all ages and abilities.

We offer a variety of playground designs to accommodate a wide range of budgets and design considerations. As you plan for the 2021 play season, consider a few grant opportunities that might supplement or enhance your existing budget for playground renovation, addition or improvements.

In addition to the below funding opportunities, request your Grant Resources guide from our partner Landscape Structures.

1. The Gates Foundation offers funding to nonprofit organizations with capital projects that benefit Colorado and its residents. Construction and improvement to parks, trail systems and open space for public recreation and access are among other capital projects they support. See their recent capital grants supporting Parks and Recreation.

2. Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) offers funding throughout Colorado for playground build or improvement to better serve communities and make outdoor recreation more accessible. In one fiscal year alone, they invested in 21 local parks and 8 school playgrounds!

3. Daniels Fund offers grants to organizations in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. Disabilities is one of eight areas of focus; with this area of focus in mind, providing a playground that provides inclusive play for all ages and abilities is our expertise at Rocky Mountain Recreation. We can provide a custom playground design using inclusive play elements such as our We-Go-Round among our extensive play ground features that far exceed ADA requirements. Organizations that apply for this grant need to have a 501©(3) status or government equivalent. Learn more about eligibility requirements and application opportunities here. Average grant size is $75K.
